Piknik Summer began in Hersbruck!

🌞 Midsummer Piknik Tour 2025 — Off to a Glowing Start

We opened our Midsummer Piknik Tour 2025 in Hersbruck on Saturday 14 June — and what a start it was!

The concert took place in the Deutsches Hirtenmuseum, Germany’s only museum dedicated to shepherding culture. Housed in a beautifully preserved 16th-century half-timbered ensemble — with its barn, courtyard, and garden — the museum blends rural history, city life, and folklore. The very space we performed in (essentially a beuatifully restored “Scheune”) now hosts concerts and cultural events alongside permanent exhibitions that explore the deep relationship between humans and animals.

It was hot! The kind of still, full-bodied summer heat that greets you already in the car (even with the A/C on!). We picked up Steffen Hollenweger (who was our guest on double bass in Flo’s absence) at a “Park & Meet” on the Autobahn — and by the time we reached the top floor of the museum for soundcheck, it felt like we’d climbed into a rustic sauna.

Still, the warmth of the room was nothing compared to the warmth of the audience. Despite the scorching 33°C heat, we had a full house — they stayed, clapped, and sang along with us until a couple of super-sweaty encores. We may have each lost a kilo in weight by the end of it, but it was all worth it.

The concert was organised by KiCK e.V., a volunteer-run cultural association who bring cultural events to the region — not as a business, but as a passion. They’re a great example of what’s possible when communities invest in art. And KiCK e.V. has also been recognised multiple times by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts for their high-quality programming! Across Europe, it’s often organisations like these — often quietly working behind the scenes — that keep live music alive and accessible. We’re grateful to have started this tour with such passionate people and thoughtful hosts.

We wrapped up the evening with Franconian beer in the courtyard, good conversations under the stars, and a shared sense that this is exactly how a summer concert should feel.
